Meet your new instructor: Robert ‘Sput’ Searight
Sput will be the featured percussion keynote guest for Symposium I, a two-day flagship learning event at Bluecoats School of the Arts.
The multi-Grammy-winning artist Sput has performed, arranged, and produced for Snarky Puppy, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop Dogg, Timbaland, Erykah Badu, Justin TImberlake, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Miller, Nicholas Payton, Kirk Franklin, Shaun Martin, Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, Cory Henry, Bill Laurance, and Juston Stanton. His current project is the funk band Ghost Note. Formed in 2015, the group’s two studio albums - 2018s Swagism and 2015’s Fortified - have earned critical acclaim and popular success around the globe, with both albums hitting the #1 spot on the iTunes jazz charts.
Sput joins Grammy winning composer and performer Jacob Collier, and world-renowned trumpet performer and professor Jens Lindemann, forming a roster of incredible keynote guests for Symposium I & Symposium II. These two flagship learning events are the most ambitious learning events ever programmed by Bluecoats, and the first 2-day live learning events on School of the Arts, an online school built by Bluecoats.
At Symposium I, the keynote guests create a starting point for a winds track, percussion track, and colorguard/dance track. Leadership & conducting students will have the opportunity to choose their keynote presentation of choice.
“Having a guest like Sput is such a great honor,” said Bluecoats Percussion Caption Head Roger Carter. “We’re thrilled that he’s joining us, and I can’t wait to learn from him.”
Symposium I & II are scheduled for November 21-22 and December 5-6 online at bluecoats.school. In addition to Sput, Jacob Collier, and Jens Lindemann, dozens of world-class educators, composers, and performers from around the world are scheduled to teach.
